Sampurna came into being as an association dedicated and committed to preserving and promoting classical music in Pakistan. Formed at Karachi in August 1999 by Saffia Saleem Beyg, Sampurna has to its credit over 20 programs (instrumentals, recitals, vocals, and lectures) in the city with established artists as well as with new and talented musicians. The association continues it work under the aegis of its originator, Mrs. Beyg, who herself is an accomplished classical singer. Mrs. Beyg served as Executive Director of The Academy of Performing Arts till it was disbanded by the military government in the 80s.

With a member base of around 125 including 10 life members, Sampurna is striving hard to preserve classical music and save this art form from dying. A not-for-profit organization, Sampurna, despite having scant resources at its disposal, has managed to hold programs based on classical music very consistently and regularly for the last two years. The association claims to be the only society, which regularly undertakes programs introducing new talents, promoting relatively unknown musicians along with presenting the work of recognized maestros - both from Pakistan and India. We hope that through your encouragement and support, Sampurna contributes its bit to create an awareness of the roots of our civilization and preserve our rich cultural heritage.0
