Sampurna screened a video of a Kathak dance performance as part of its regular fortnightly feature of movie and video shows. This screening includes a brilliant performance of Kathak by Swati, a student of Guru Govind Singh, who performs in Raag Charukeshi, a dhammal and a thumri in Raag Des. And a performance by the students of the renowned Smt. Kamudini Lakhia, a Kathak Guru and a choreographer par excellence. This blend of the Kathak with modern dance is not to be missed.

Sampurna was delighted to arrange the screening of a documentary film on the state of classical music in Pakistan "Khayal Darpan" produced and directed by, Delhi-based filmmaker Yousuf Saeed. Saeed spent six months in Pakistan visiting different cities, meeting musicians & musicologists, attending concerts and observing music teaching at various institutions. He not only documented some of the surviving practitioners & patrons of classical music but also raised some vital questions about the state of classical music in the region. The movie has been screened internationally at different forums.

Sampurna presented an evening of Kathak followed by Sitar featuring promising Kathak dancer Hasan Jan, student of Naheed Siddiqui. The sitar player was a 17-year old brilliant sitar player Turab Ali (Sonu), grandson of Ustad Imdad Husain & nephew of Ikhlaq Husain. Turab Ali, who is an upcoming and promising sitar nawaz of Pakistan, truly gave an enthralling performance.

Sampurna was delighted to hold its first baithak after Saffia apa's recovery from a major surgery. All friends and well wishers of Sampurna and Saffia Apa's were requested to join in celebrating Saffia Apa performed at an exclusive evening attended by the Sampurna members and her close friends. Her beautiful rendition of exquisite raags, which she sang with her honey-sweet voice, was definitely a treat and an experience of another kind.

Sampurna organized a video screening of a brilliant performance by two of the subcontinent's legendry artists, sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan with Pandit Kishan Maharaj, revered as the emperor of tabla. The raagas performed include darbari kanada & bhairavi. The performance aptly titled "When Time Stood Still" was held at the Royal Festival Hall London in April 2002. Ustad Vilayat Khan is accompanied by his younger son, Hidayatullah Khan on sitar. It is not always that one gets to witness two giants perform together. The combination of Ustad Vilayat Khan & Pt. Kishan Maharaj bowled over classical music enthusiasts and connoisseurs.

In April Sampurna organized two concerts. A Classical Music concert with two visiting artists from India - Malini Awasthi (semi classical vocalist) and Suhail Khan (Sarangi player), was a real treat to be cherished. While another concert with sitar player Ashraf (Tony) Sharif Poonchwala son of late Ustad Sharif Khan Poonchwala was truly enjoyable. Thanks Saffia Apa, for enriching our lives with music!

The video screening series, titled "Mausiqi-Ek-Khoj" took place on 10 March 2007. The raags are introduced and explained by Shujat Khan with performances by world renowned artists. For the month of March, the raags selected included: Bageshri, Tilak Kamod and Shahana Kanada.

The various colors of Raags and Ragnis were savoured at Sampurna's screening series: "Mausiqi-Ek-Khoj" The raags were introduced and explained by Shujat Khan (son of late Ustad Vilayat Khan) with performances by world renowned artists. An introduction through film music set in the very same raag helped new comers understand classical music in an easier way. Raags screened included Malkauns, Sohini, and also Bhajans.

Sampurna commenced the new year with its first program, mehfil-e-ghazal, featuring Pakistan's brilliant ghazal singer Tina Sani. Tina, who is one of the most prominent ghazal singers today and who enjoys huge following among Urdu poetry fans, gave a beautiful performance once again.
