Sampurna experimented with fusion of eastern and western classical by bringing together Abbas Premjee, a promising western classical musician and Saffia Beyg who excels in eastern classical music. Abbas Premjee completed his undergraduate degree in music theory & composition and graduate degree in classical guitar from US. Since his return to Pakistan in 1993, Abbas has been involved in music production and composition since 1993. He founded "Sound Ideas", a production facility catering to local artists and media production companies.
Evening of ghazal, thumri & sarangi

The evening was a unique blend of instrumental and vocal performances. The evening began with the performance by Dr. Taimur Khan who played sarangi, a dying classical instrument, with such flair that captivated the audience throughout the presentation. He was followed by Dr. Shams Junejo, a medical practitioner and an amateur singer who was appreciated for her beautiful voice and fine singing quality. The grand finale was an exclusive performance by Mehnaz whose rendition of thumris was an utterly enthralling feast for pulses, hearts, minds and souls. Mehnaz holds the honor of being the only Pakistani female singer to have won Nigar Award for seven years in a row. She sings ghazals, thumris and playback for films with equal finesse.
Ghazal concert with Tina Sani

The concert commemorated with ‘International Music Day’ celebrated annually by the Daniel Pearl Foundation to promote universal peace. Tina, one of the leading ghazal singers of Pakistan and recipient of President’s Award for Pride of Performance, sang her popular numbers as well as some new compositions. The highlight of the evening was her rendition of classical pieces of Begum Akhter & Mukhtar Begum.
Qawwali by Farid Ayaz, Abu Mohammad & Group

The program was a tribute to late Munshi Raziuddin, one of the best known exponents of Qawwali in the 20th century. Sons of the late Munshi saheb, Farid Ayaz and Abu Mohammad, have gained prominence in the last few years and have given numerous live performances in Pakistan as well as abroad. Farid Ayaz was also conferred with President’s award for Pride of Performance in the year 2005. The qawwali was preceded by dinner.

The evening began with Saffia Beyg who sang khayal and thumri followed by a brilliant sitar performance by Sajid Hussain. Sajid who comes from a family of musicians has been under training of Sampurna for the last 5 years. During his solo performance, Sajid captivated the audience through his improvised style of sitar playing. The evening also included Saffia Beyg’s beautiful renditions of various raags. The event was covered by Hum TV.

The evening began with Karam Abbas who sang thumris in the true tradition of the Gawlior Gharaana. Karam Abbas, son of late Ustad Ahmed Ali Khan, has performed both in Pakistan and abroad. Karam was followed by Saffia Beyg who presented some specially prepared compositions on the occasion. Both the artists awed the audience with their distinctive and uniquely inspiring renditions.
Workshop on classical music
April 2005
Saffia Beyg has in the past given numerous lecture demonstrations. During the workshop held in April, Mrs. Beyg gave a lecture accompanied by live demonstration to educate the listeners about various raags. The lecture was followed by a video presentation of a live performance by two classical music icons, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and Ustad Rashid Khan, with an introduction by none other than the legendary Ustad Villayat Khan.
Sitar concert by Shahid Parvez

Sampurna organized an exclusive evening with Ustad Shahid Parvez one of India's most distinguished sitar players. Ustad Parvez hails from the famous lineage of the etawah tradition. He was initiated into music by his father Ustad Aziz Khan, and gave his first public performance at the age of 8. He received training in vocal music, tabla as well as the sitar and is recognized today as a major attraction on the Indian classical concert circuit.
Lecture demonstration on classical music

SSaleem Ahmed Khan, a leading musicologist and patron of classical music in Karachi gave a highly absorbing talk on Urdu ghazal. Mr. Khan, who is one of the patrons of Saaz o Awaz and Sampurna, touched upon various facets of ghazal and its evolution over the years. His talk, which was lavishly punctuated with couplets by several renowned poets of the sub continents, was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. The talk was followed by a small session of classical music by Saffia Beyg, founder Sampurna, who sang various bandishes set in beautiful raags.
