An Evening with Amir Khusrau

Celebrating its 4th anniversary Sampurna dedicated an evening of vocal, sitar and qawwali to pay tribute to the legendary music genius Amir Khusrau. Amir Khusrau invented new raags by combining Persian modes with Indian raags. He also popularized the sufi devotional music qawwali.

Classical Rendition & Sitar Performance

Sampurna presented yet another beautiful evening of pure classical featuring performances by Saffia Beyg and Jawwad Noor. Jawwad Noor began studying the sitar and surbahar under (late) Ustad Muhammad Alam Khan in 1991. He received vocal instruction from Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan and has also spent some time with Ustad Shujaat Khan, son of Ustad Vilayat Khan. The artist has had numerous performances in Pakistan & America.

Classical Recital & Thumri Rendition

Hosted at the Boat Club, the evening presented a Classical Vocal and Thumri rendition by Saffia Beyg. Saffia renowned for her rendering of Khayal, Dadra and Thumri in the traditional style beautifully presented numerous popular and several lesser-known raags.

Saving Classical Music from Dying

Sampurna's May program was directed mainly toward the young people who are unaware of their music and their heritage. The program featured Saffia Beyg herself who rendered some of the most beautiful ragas in quite an exquisite and simple form. The programe, held at the Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture, was a rare opportunity for youngsters to discover that classical is not to be scared of, it is not something aloof; it is beautiful in form and easily understood and it surely reaches out to the soul.

Sampurna's 3rd Anniversary Special

Sampurna arranged a grand concret, a fund-raising program featuring renowned ghazal singer, Tina Sani. The evening kicked off by introducing the three child artists Sampurna has been supporting with due assistance from classical music supporters. The young performers delighted the audience by their raaga and thumri presentations. The best was yet to come and Tina indisputably overawed the ghazal/ poetry lovers with her beautiful rendering of Urdu Ghazal in the traditional style.

Sampurna's Child Artists

Three of Sampurna's child artists performed at the 'All Women SARC Mela' held on 8th of February 2003. Organized at Karachi's Marriott Hotel the young performers presentation was heart-rendering and thrilled the audience, young & old alike.

A Beautiful Evening of Sweet Melodies

On repeated requests from members and friends, Saffia Beyg presented an evening of ghazal singing. Performing some of the well known ghazals with an introduction to the respective raags, the exponent of classical music truly charmed the audience with her unique presentation. The evening was a fund raiser to support the upcoming musicians inline with the key objective of Sampurna.
