To finish off yet another successful year, Sampurna presented a delightful evening comprising a solo recital by Sajid Husain and introducing Hasan Jan's in a Khatak performance. The concert was organized in aid of Sajjid Husain whose brother recently lost an eye as a good will gesture towards art and the artist.
An Evening of Jugalbandi

The fall season witnessed an enchanting evening of jugalbandi in a unique Sampurna presentation. Ustad Salamat Husain - Pride of Performance - performed on Flute followed by a solo sitar performace by Sajid Husain. The two then overawed the audience through a jugalbandi sequence.

To celebrate the occasion, Sampurna arranged an exclusive evening of classical music and dance introducing 7 brilliant child artists. In the last three years, Sampurna has supported these kids and helped them nurture their talent and polish their skills. They inlclude 3 sitar players, sons of Sajid Hussain Sitar nawaz and 4 tabla players, grandsons of Abid Hussain tabla nawaz. We hope their performance helps our supporters realize that there is immense potential which needs to be harnessed as well as give them an assurance that the money they have been contributing towards Sampurna is actually being invested towards our future. Also part of Sampurna's anniversary program was a young and upcoming Kathak dancer, Hassan Jan Warsi. Warsi began his career at the age of 19. He first studied under Baba Shahdu Maharaj and then went on to continue learing from Raju Samrat of Janki Parshad gharana of Jaipur. He has been performing since 1998 and has performed many times at different fora. He is currently giving dancel essons at the Alliance Francaise, Karachi. On this special occasion, Saffia Beyg also gave a recital singing semi-clasical for the first time.
Sitar Recital by Ustad Raees Khan

This August Sampurna proudly presented a delightful evening of classical music. As a rare gesture, renowned Sitar Nawaz, Ustad Raees Khan sung khayal for the first time. He was followed by a sitar recital by his highly talented son, Farhan Khan. Farhan has already performed with his father on many occasions and received many accolades. It was yet another occasion to see the father-son duo perform.
An Evening of Geet & Ghazal in Raaga

Sampurna successfully presented yet another rare presentation - a video recording of a private concert by renowned sitarist Ustad Shahid Pervez from India. The evening began with a vocal recital by Saffia Beyg. Along with the recital, she explained the concerned raagas in more depth to the listeners and also performed a geet and a ghazal in raaga. This was followed by the video presentation of sitar recital by Ustad Shahid Pervez.

The sitar recital by Ustad Rais Khan, courtesy Sampurna, at the Alliance Francaise, Karachi, was a musical feast. The evening ensued with a short opening speech by Sumeiya Khan. Next, Patrick Perez offered a few words of welcome. Saeed Ullah Khan, Director of Infaq Foundation and Trustee of Sampurna, briefly introduced the artist. And the musical program began - on time, contrary to Karachi standards. The musical extravaganza comprised inspirational pieces, call-and-response sessions, between the Ustad and the son he is grooming, and between the sitar-nawaz and his foil, the tabla-nawaz, Jhari Khan. From fast-paced, racy pieces to soft, delicate numbers, the sitar maestro delighted novices and music connoisseurs alike.

A Ghazal Evening with Tina Sani

On January 25, 2002, Sampurna presented an exclusive evening with Pakistan's most distinguished and accomplished Ghazal Singers of the present generation, Tina Sani. Tina is a gifted artist renowned for her rendering of Urdu Ghazal in the traditional style. Her formal training in classical music was conducted first by Ustad Nizamuddin Khan of Delhi Gharana and later by Ustad Amrohvi. Tina presented classical-based ghazals arranged in pure raagas, which she has prepared specially for this performance, besides some of the best from her repertoire.
