Lecture on 'Origins of Classical Music:From Drupad to Khayal'

Sampurna's last monthly program for the year 2000 was held on 16th November. It was a grand finale constituting a lecture demonstration on classical music by Saffia Beyg. Saffia Beyg presented a lecture on "Origins of Classical Music - from dhrupadto khayal". She focused on Darbari & Jaunpuri raags and thumri in connection with Ameer Khusro, Sultan Sharki and Taansen.The talk was accompanied by recorded and live music by Saffia Beyg. It was followed by question and answer session.This interactive musical evening proved to be highly entertaining as well asenlightening for young and old alike.
Classical Vocal - Karam & Rehmat Khan
November 2000
On November 2, 2000, Sampurna organized an evening of classical music with the brothers, Karam Abbas Khan and Rehmat Abbas Khan. Both Karam and Rehmat are well known for their television performances as well as tours all over the country.
An Evening of Sufi Music
October 2000
Sampurna organized an evening of Sufi Music on October 19, 2000. Mrs. Rosy Zaman introduced the sufi poetries, accompanied by a vocal artist, Faisal Husnain.
An Evening with A Classical Banjo Artist
September 2000
After the successful try of the combination of classical and contemporary music, Sampurna organized an evening on 9th September, with Mumtaz Ali Sabjal, a classical Banjo artist.Mumtaz Ali Sabjal has been learning banjo since childhood and has given numerous solo concerts throughout the country.
Conference Demonstration on Classical Music
August 2000
On August 26th, a conference-demonstration was given by Saffia Beyg and her students, Sahar Raza and Faisal Husnain. Both Sahar and faisal performed Raga's and Thumris. They were accompanied by Abid Hussain on Tabla and Jameel Ahmed on Sarangi.
"Fusion" Concert
July 2000
Sampurna presented its 9th programme - Fusion -, an experimental concert blending pure classical with contemporary music. An arrangement with the classical instruments like Taanpura, Tabla,& Pakawaj and contemporary ones including Keyboard &Guitar with vocal interpretations. The concert was composed by Saffia Beyg (vocals), Ashley Clemens (vocals), tariq Khan (guitar), Shuja Hussain (keyboard) and Abid Hussain (tabla & pakawaj).
Basant Bahar Concert

Basant is a celebration of the onset of spring, traditionally marked by kite flying and the wearing of colour yellow. SAMPURNA continuing its good efforts for the promotion of Pakistani artists organized yet another evening concert of ‘Basant Bahar' on February 25, 2000.
An Evening of Classical Songs
January 2000
The Association SAMPURNA, formerly known as "SAMPURAN" held its second concert on January 21, 2000. The performance consisted of classical songs by singer Sahar Raza, with Musadiq Sanval and Faisal Husain at the tabla and harmonium respectively. Sahar Raza, taught by the teacher, Buland Iqbal for six years, sung her most beautiful songs. The tablaist Musadiq Sanval has a musical repertory that ranges from classical music to folk music. While Faisal Husain, son of the famous Master Nazir Hussain Sheelay of the Patalia family is a renegade of pop music converted to classical music to the benefit of the Association Sampurna. Celebrating its 4th anniversary Sampurna dedicated an evening of vocal, sitar and qawwali to pay tribute to the legendary music genius Amir Khusrau. Amir Khusrau invented new raags by combining Persian modes with Indian raags. He also popularized the sufi devotional music qawwali.
